With services making up about two-thirds of the US economy, this report illustrates the current state of Service Design analyzing practitioners’ background, role and skillset alongside their organisations’ sector, team size, maturity and implementational challenges. The study was born from a collaborative research effort between frog, Service Design Network and the Savannah College of Art and Design.
The data was captured through an online survey with over 350 responders across 44 states, and 10 interviews with thought leaders from different sectors. Among its many findings, the report highlights the dilution of Service Design across other disciplines and the lack of scalability due to insufficient formal education. On the other side, the number of roles is rapidly growing, especially in financial services, healthcare and government, and service design skills are being implemented at all levels to build a bridge across business units and increase the user-centricity of an organisation.
